The world is full of breathtaking places to go to, that's for sure. And for me and my fellow citizens of Gent, we take much pride in saying that our city is one of those beautiful ones. The strong presence of its history with a mixture of the contemporary age truly define the city, it doesn’t also just take me back with these feelings but as I look more at the city’s magnificent architecture it always makes me realize that this city has more than what meets the eye. Each fortress, each church, and each building that you see has its own story. Not just that, but also the people around are interesting, may it be the tourists walking with a sense of adventure or even the locals who are rushing to work. In Gent, you will see that everything and everyone tell their own history.
It was indeed exciting to share these certain feelings of mine towards my city to Eena, which is why when the moment was finally there, a moment that we have waited for almost a year, all I felt was there she was and I am extremely happy. But with too much mixed feelings I suddenly forgot to say a decent hello, instead I greeted her family until it hit me. I kind of regret that, but she is here finally, and in my mind during that time all I know is I will try to make them feel at home in order to have a great time in my hometown.
Yes, while writing this all I know is that, I couldn’t be happier that finally I had the chance to tour her and her family around, even if it’s only a few days.
We made some great memories again in their time of stay here, and for me life is about cherished memories,
may it be good or bad. Always make it count, because second chances are rare and maybe one day we will end up regretting something we didn’t say or do.
One of my favorite memories with her that I entirely remembered is that between the raindrops we found ourselves in the heart of Gent at the night time. And everything turned beautiful for me, especially the fact that we saw a dark night time, because believe me during summer season it is really late until the sky gets dark. It may be a cliché thing to say, but you see if you are in a long distance relationship each moment is essential and when you finally see each other you’ll just feel infinite that everything was perfect. During that time too we witnessed the lights of the Saint Nicholas Church were making the raindrops glister like precious gems in our eyes and it was as I knew Gent will always be magnificent for me and it is glad to share it with Eena.
The next day we went up the Saint Bavo Cathedral, good thing they have an elevator, because 880 steps is a bit much. Four floors of history and beauty till you finally reach the top, by far the best view of Gent as you can go all the way around the tower. I won't explain it all but what I will say is that it's truly a city to which I am proud of. In my view it is a peaceful city, one where you can go day or night. Whether it is to forget your troubles for a bit or just to find a way to enjoy life.
When you get to walk in Gent it will make you realise that not everything has to change in technology or modern styles. Little shops are still present nowadays in the city, may it be between the houses selling fries with mayonnaise, mussels or watercookery from Gent, and all the other delicious delicacies. Next to the food stops you will find the Gravensteen, a beautifull medieval castle that will give you the feeling of a knight.
This all said, it's been such an excitement for me to write even though the whole thing is new for me. All I can wish for is a good and growing blog and relation,
that we can see the world piece
by piece. And last but not least I hope that everyone will have the chance to discover it with us. So for now what I can say is, go and discover, don't be afraid to just take a plane or train and see a new place. Go with a friend or loved one, or hell, go alone, because earlier this week someone told me, "it's not the destination that matters, it's the journey,” so travel and explore.
