You are famous for many things both good and bad. The waffles, fries, Belgium’s “Mannken Pis,” but above all those you came off unexpectedly impressive. You are more than what people perceived you to be, which is why I will try to tell you now some notable places we’ve been to or some great memories that we have kept while we were in Brussels.
A good old fries is what started our day in Belgium, we have tried Chez Papy Resto Snack’s meals and ended up really full! And let me tell you this, Eena and her parents agree with me that the best fries may be eaten in our country, ha! So if you ever go to Belgium or even just Brussels we definitely recommend you to try some fries, you will never regret it! Oh add beer to it too!
Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert was the next on the list, Eena really wanted to go here and so happens it is just near the resto! The architecture I may say is a great definition of a European mall, from the glass ceiling up to the classical exterior designs of the shops, all those elegantly made. Also, have I mentioned what made it kind of unique from other European malls? It’s that chocolate shops are everywhere, I guess it’s just a Belgian thing.
Inside the mall was also a gorgeous book shop/library, and it’s the Tropismes Libraries, they
have a vast collection of books in different genres, but mostly written in either French, Dutch, or German. They also have good souvenirs, including postcards.
As comic book fans, Eena and I also enjoyed looking at the comic book murals around the city, they even have a “Comic Book Route,” but sadly because of the lack of time we weren’t able to witness all those, hopefully next time!
Let’s move on now to some historical places, the first one on the list is of course Brussels’ Grote Markt or Grand Place, in there you will see the city’s museum, city hall, and other remarkable landmarks. The Grand Place is also famous for its Flower Carpet, which we wish to see in the future as well! The Grand Place for me is also a special one because you will be able to see different people that you don’t even know, strangers that you cross paths with. Some are locals and most are tourists, and for me that’s one of the reasons why this place and the whole city is interesting. Different walks of life are there each has stories that they’ve yet to tell.
This next one is definitely one thing you should see in Brussels, well for me it is not really that impressive or special, but it’s something historical and it is the Mannken Pis statue. One fun thing they do with this is that they dress him up for occasions that happen during the year. So every couple weeks they will change the outfit, from sailor, to our national soccer uniform and even Santa Clause
And now, as I end this, I almost forgot! Brussels is truly famous for its Belgian waffles. Just a tip is that if by any chance you go to Brussels, you got to try the waffles, but know that you can share one with 2 persons, because they are huge but they put the best toppings! From delicious chocolate sauce, ice cream, strawberries, sugar and so on. They will definitely give you the best Brussels experience you can have, and if you get a craving after that, you can always enjoy again the Belgian fries in one of the local stores.
Before I end this is that I will also tell you what I wish we also saw that day and it’s the Atomium and the Mini Europe. I regret to have missed it with Eena and her family when they were here, but we will definitely go there when they come back next time.
The city’s beauty is undoubtedly beautiful, especially the architectural designs of each building. It is not for nothing that this is the capital, everything that happens from business to tourism starts there. Brussels may not be my favourite city but it's worth a day at least out of your trip. So next time you are here, bring a visit to Brussels and have a cultural experience, some delicious snacks, and memories that you will cherish for a moment of your life..
